and the lowest point is 55 ft at the Ouachita River.

valleys. The Ozark Plateau with the Boston Mountains are in the northwest, the
Ouachita Mountains are in the south and the Arkansas River runs between these
areas, south and east Arkansas are called the Lowlands. The Lowlands are known
as the Delta and the Grand Prairie.
The "Delta" of Arkansas lies along the Mississippi River. These areas have rich soil which is

Arkansas doesn't border the Gulf of
Mexico, but the warm water does affect the weather in the state. The
state is very hot and humid in the summer with mild, dry winters. Average
summer temperatures are around 90 degrees and winter average temperatures are
50 degrees. The state gets about 40-50 inches of precipitation, but only about
5 inches of snow. Thunderstorms occur about 60 days throughout the year. The
state is within Tornado Alley and the remains of hurricanes can dump enormous
amounts of rain on the area.
Arkansas has a strong agricultural economy. They
produce cattle, cotton, eggs, hogs, milk, poultry, rice, sorghum and soybeans.
The state also produces bromine, electrical equipment, food processing,
fabricated metal products, machinery, paper products and vanadium. Auto parts
factories are new to the east part of the state. A school bus factory operates
in Conway.
