Stockton Moving Quote

Stockton has a population of almost 290,000 which makes it the 13th largest city in California. The estimate in January 2006 was that over 668,000 people lived in the Stockton metropolitan area. The city covers 56 square miles and has an elevation of 13 feet. Several nearby communities have had a population boom in the last ten years. Part of the reason for this is because people want to avoid the high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay area. Although the cost of living increased in Stockton it is still less than San Francisco. The city is known as "California's Sunrise Seaport".

The temperatures in Stockton in the summer are between 52 and 94 degrees. Winter temperatures are between 36 and 53 degrees. The record low was 17 and the record high was 114.

An important event in Stockton history includes the completion of the port and the deep water channel. These lead to the San Francisco Bay and were finished in the early 1930's. This opened up greater commercial opportunities for the city. It also offered the chance for the Rough and Ready Island naval base to open.

Another important event was the closing of the Stockton naval reserve center in 1996. It was a major communications post for submarines in the Pacific during the Cold War. This could've been bad news for the area, but there were plans in the works to develop the area commercially.
