Connecticut is one of the states located in the portion of the United States that is known as New England in the northeastern US. It was one of the original thirteen colonies which revolted against the British forces in the American Revolution.

Connecticut is the richest state in the country and the residents have the highest per capita income of any state in the United States.  The state has a population of 3,405, 565 who are spread over 5.543 square miles. Hartford is the capital and Bridgeport is the largest city. The state is known as "The Constitution State" and "The Nutmeg State". Connecticut residents are known as Nutmeggers or Yankees.

Connecticut has four seasons, which include cold winters and hot, humid summers. The average winter temperatures are between 23 and 31 degrees. The state usually gets between 25 and 100 inches of snow, the highest amounts are in the northwestern area. Rain is frequent in the spring. The average high temperatures in the summer range from 81 to 87 degrees in different areas of the state. Autumn has mild temperatures and the state has colorful tree foliage in October and November. Thunderstorms and hurricanes affect the state in the summer and fall.

Some sections of the state have the highest per capita income in the country, while other parts of the state have some of the lowest per capita income in the US.  Some of the wealthiest towns in Connecticut include: Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford, Westport, Weston, and Wilton. On the other end of the spectrum, Hartford is one of the poorest cities in the state. The east part of the state has other poor to medium income residents. They are negatively impacted by the high cost of living caused by high real estate costs and high heating costs.

Connecticut is an agricultural state which produces: cattle, dairy products, eggs, nursery stock and tobacco. Transportation equipment is a part of the economy. These include: aircraft, helicopter and submarine parts. Electrical equipment, chemical products, heavy industrial machinery, fabricated metal products, pharmaceutical products and scientific instruments are parts of the economy.
