Waterbury is located 33 miles southwest of Hartford. A population of 107,902 makes it to fifth largest city in Connecticut. The city covers 29 square miles. It's known as "The Brass City" because it was the leading brassware manufacturer in previous years.

The city has five public high schools, they are: Crosby, Kaynor Technical, Kennedy, Waterbury Arts Magnet and Wilby High Schools. The private schools include: Chase Collegiate, Holy Cross High School and the Sacred Heart High School. Colleges in the area include: Naugatuck Valley Community College and Post University.

During World War II, Waterbury was a prime industrial and manufacturing city. However, at the end of the war, manufacturing in Waterbury dropped off. Over 10,000 employees were let go before the war ended. Some businesses would change their focus after the war, but thousands lost their jobs permanently. Brass was no longer the staple to the economy. Plastic and aluminum became more important to the city. Employees in the brass industry had dwindled to less than 5,000 by 1980.
