Idaho is about 300 miles from the Pacific Ocean and the ocean influences the weather in the state. In winter, Idaho has cloudy, humid weather with precipitation on Borah Peak. The temperatures are not as cold in the winter as they are in other similar areas and altitude. Summer is wet and winter is drier in the southern portion of the state. Summer can be hot, although it’s rare for the temperature to be over 100 degrees for extended times. The humidity is pretty low and summer evenings are cooler. Winter is cold and the temperature can dip below zero, but this is usually for limited periods of time.

Idaho grows 1/3 of the potatoes grown in the United States. In addition, the state produces barley, beans, cattle, dairy products, lentils and sugar beets.  Other elements of the Idaho economy include: chemical products, electronic manufacturing, food processing, lumber and wood products, machinery, paper products, silver and other mining and tourism.
