Cicero, Illinois had a population of 85,616 in 2000. However, the population dropped to 83,029 in 2003. The original Cicero Township was 6 times the size of the current city. But, times with weak leadership and poor services prompted Berwyn and Oak Park to become independent areas. Austin was annexed and became a part of Chicago. 

Cicero has a colorful history and Al Capone moved his criminal empire from Chicago to Cicero in at attempt to elude the Chicago police. In the 1980's and 1990's a large number of Hispanic people moved to Cicero. 22nd St was once predominantly Czech and Bohemian, but Spanish businesses have replaced the European restaurants. In recent years, Puerto Rican and Polish residents have moved into Cicero. Mini malls and larger retail stores are moving into the area. New residential areas with condominiums are growing up around the city.

  • Chodl Auditorium - Located inside J. Sterling Morton High School, it is one of the largest non-commercial theatres in the Chicago metropolitan area and is listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
