Dubuque is located on the Mississippi River in Iowa. In 2006, the population was 57,696. That made it the eighth largest city in Iowa. The Dubuque metropolitan area had a population of 92,384. Dubuque is located at the junction of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin and it is known as the "Tri State Area". It is also known as "The Key City", "City of Five Flags" and "Masterpiece on the Mississippi". The city is 27.7 square miles with 1.2 square miles on water. The elevation is 617 feet.  

It is a commercial, cultural, educational and industrial center for the region. Dubuque is the oldest city in Iowa and it has a rich history. There is steady tourist activity and unique architecture in the area.

Manufacturing has been a primary part of the local economy for a long time. Lately, the economy has been diversified. In the present time, the economy is centered around: education, finance, health care, tourism and publishing.

Dubuque has four distinct seasons, but the local weather isn't as extreme as some of the surrounding area. Summer temperatures range from the upper 50's to the low 80's. Winter temperatures range from the low teens to the low 40's. The highest precipitation is from April through September. The lowest precipitation is in January and February.
