Kenner is located within the Jefferson Parish in Louisiana. The city had
a population of 70,517 in 2000. The city is 15.2 square miles and is at an
elevation of 0 feet above sea level. Two mottos for the city are: "America's City"
and "Everything's Right Here".
Kenner was founded in 1855 by Minor
Kenner. The land used for the town was from three plantations that were owned
by the Kenner
family. The city began to see growth near the end of the 1950's. At that time,
developers moved into the area. They drained and filled the swampland that was
located north of the city. Interstate 10 and the Veterans Memorial Highway were improved
and built in the 1960's and this helped the development in the area. The
population was around 17,000 in the 1960's and over 60,000 in 1979.
