Lake Charles was the fifth largest city
in Louisiana
with a population of 71,575 in 2000. The Lake
Charles metropolitan area had a population of 193,568
in 2000. The city is 42.5 square miles with 2.4 square miles on water and an
elevation of 13 feet above sea level. Lake Charles
is a cultural and educational center for the southwestern part of Louisiana. The city is
known as the "Festival Capital of Louisiana" because there are over 75
festivals held in the city each year.
The
first riverboat casino was opened by Pinnacle Entertainment in May 2005. The
resort is named L'Auberge du Luc and it means "The Inn on the Lake".
This casino includes an 18 hole championship golf course, a pool, restaurants,
retail stores, a salon and a spa.

from the Gulf of Mexico. Summer temperatures
range from the low 70's to the low 90's. Winter temperatures range from the low
