Coon Rapids was original part of the Anoka Township
in 1857. It was a separate village in 1952 and a city in 1959. The Anoka-Ramsey Community College has been in the city
since 1967. The Northstar Corridor commuter rail line will stop in Coon Rapids. The line will
connect downtown Minneapolis
to the northwestern suburbs. The planned completion date for the line is 2009.
