Plymouth is the seventh largest city in Minnesota with a population of 68,978. The city is 35.3 square miles with 2.4 square miles on water. The elevation is 971 feet above sea level. The metropolitan area that includes Plymouth had 2,968,805 people in 2000. 

The first residents of the area that would become Plymouth, were the Dakota. They camped at the northern portion of Medicine Lake. The first settler in the area was Antoine LeCounte. He arrived in 1848, but he didn't settle there until 1852. He built a cabin in 1855 and other buildings were added soon after. People began to settle and they got organized. The name of the town was changed to Medicine Lake in 1858. It was used once, but it wasn't used again. 

The town began to grow and by 1863, there were churches, hotel, a post office, and a school. In 1880, the population of 1,074 and most of the residents were farming for a living. Roads were constructed and it was easier for people to reach the town. The Lake was a tourist attraction and resorts were built near the shores of Medicine Lake. May 1955, Plymouth was incorporated.
