At one point in 2000, the Census Bureau started calling the Minneapolis-Saint Paul, just Minneapolis and the residents balked at this. Both names appeared in the census report. F Scott Fitzgerald and Charles Schultz both came from Saint Paul. In the early 1800's Indians and European explorers lived in the area along with the American soldiers from Fort Snelling.
