North Carolina Moving Quote

North Carolina is on the southeastern coast of the United States. It’s the location of the first successful flight by the Wright Brothers at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk located along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is the fastest growing state and has a very diverse economy. The population was estimated to be over 8.8 million in 2006. The state is 53,865 square miles.

The elevation within the state varies from sea level on the coast to 6,000 feet in the mountains. It also has the most varied climate of any southern state. The coastal climate is like South Carolina and Georgia. But, the climate in the mountains is similar to New England. The Atlantic Ocean has a major impact on the weather along the coast. The western section of the state contains six mountain ranges and the weather is very different from the rest of the state. The coastal area is mild in the winter and mild in the summer. The piedmont area has hotter summers and more severe winters.

The state usually receives one direct hit from a hurricane at least once every ten years. There are many other years when a portion of the state is affected by hurricanes to a lesser degree. This includes a tropical storm hitting the state every three to four years. Florida and Louisiana are the only states hit by hurricanes more often than North Carolina.

North Carolina is a leader in agriculture, financial services and manufacturing. The main products that are produced in North Carolina, include: chemicals, electrical equipment, paper, pulp and paper products and textiles. Tobacco has been a top source of revenue in the state for many years.

North Carolina is the third largest production state in the United States. Many films have been shot in the state and several are in production in mid 2007. North Carolina is also known as the “Outdoor Theatre Capital of America”.

North Carolina offers many forms of recreation and has a rich history, its unique and varied geography and the growing industry. Some of the activities in North Carolina, include: swimming, beaches, skiing, the fall colors, fishing, hunting, birdwatching, ATV trails, four wheeling on many beaches, rock climbing, biking.
