village of Parma was incorporated in 1924
and in 1926 it began to use the mayor-council form of government. There was a
proposition for Parma to become part of Cleveland in 1931, but Parma became an independent city
instead. The city grew after World War II when families moved to the suburbs of
Cleveland. Parma's Nike Site Park was home to Nike missiles
in underground silos during the Cold War. From 1950-1980, the population grew
from less than 20,000 to over 110,000. In recent years it has dropped to less
than 90,000.
