The city of Youngstown is 34 square miles and is at an elevation of 850 feet above sea level. In 2006, the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area had 586,939 people. It included Mahoning County, Ohio, Trumbull County, Ohio and Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Youngstown is centrally located with access to:

Summer temperatures in Youngstown range from the upper 50's to the lower 80's.  Winter temperatures range from the mid teens to the upper 30's. Rain is consistent throughout the year with slightly higher amounts May to September. 

This area is known as the "Rust Belt" because it's been a center of steel production for many years. Steel production moved overseas in the 1970's and Youngstown had to restructure its economy. There are several steel and metal working businesses in Youngstown today, but its nothing like the past. 

Youngstown State University is one of the largest employers in the city. In the 1970's when the steel companies were moving out, the auto production plants helped to keep the economy going. The General Motors Lordstown Assembly plant is the largest manufacturer in the area. 

Downtown Youngstown

The downtown area was once an important part of the city's economy. The area is now experiencing growth. The Youngstown Business Incubator is located downtown and there are technology companies located there. Several are outgrowing the space they have as the businesses grow. The incubator has kept up with the situation and they are expanding the area. A number of banks are located downtown, including: First National Bank, Huntington, JP Morgan, National City and Home Savings & Loan.

  • Western Reserve Transit Authority - provides service in Youngstown and Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
