is 34,726 square miles. The highest point in the state is Sassafras
Mountain at 3,560 feet and the lowest
point is sea level at Atlantic Ocean.
Summer in South Carolina is hot
and humid. Daytime temperatures are usually 86-92 degrees and night
temperatures are in the 70's near the ocean and in the upper 60's inland.
Winter on the coast is mild, while inland and in the mountains the temperature
can dip below freezing. The state has plenty of precipitation. Snow is skimpy
on the coast with less than an inch and inland gets less than six inches
annually.
