Irving is a city of almost 202,000 people which is located in Dallas County, Texas. It is part of the Dallas-Plato-Irving metropolitan area and the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. Irving covers 67 square miles.

J O "Otto" Schulze and Otis Brown founded the town of Irving in 1903. There is a belief that the town was named after author, Washington Irving. The name was changed several times from 1889 until it was incorporated in 1914.

Irving had several core businesses by the end of the 1800's and the public school system was established in 1909. The population was only 357 in 1925, but the city has grown over the years. By the 1960's, there were about 45,000 people in Irving.

 

The economy in Irving is made up of financial businesses, manufacturing plants, transportation, retail businesses and the University of Dallas.
