Utah Moving Quote
Utah is in the western part of the United States.
Over 80% of the people in Utah live in the
Wasatch Front and Salt Lake City
is at its center. There are large areas of Utah that are uninhabited. The state has
snowcapped mountains, river valleys and rugged deserts. It's also a very
religious area and over 60% of the residents are members of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Utah is 84,976 square miles and Salt Lake City is the largest city and the
capital. The state is known as the "Beehive
State". The 2000
population for the state was over 2.2 million. The highest point is Kings Peak
at 13,258 feet above sea level and the lowest is Beaver Dam Wash
2100 feet above sea level.
Eastern and southern
Utah get less than 12 inches of precipitation a year, but the mountainous area
gets over 40 inches a year and other areas in the state get over 60 inches a
year. November to April, snow can be common and the mountain tops are snow
covered until July some years. Summer and spring bring storms to the area in
the form of severe thunderstorms that cause flash floods and wildfires.
Over half the
residents in Utah
are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are also
known as Mormons and the LDS
Church. Mormons have a
strong influence in Utah
and this is reflected in the strict attitudes about alcohol and gambling. Their
beliefs are also a reason for the high birth rate. The church supports plural
marriages, but has conservative thoughts about most political issues and
moderate about social and moral issues.
