Ogden Moving Quote
Ogden is located in Utah and in 2006, the estimated population
was 78,086. Throughout its history, the town has been a major railway hub and
there is still a large amount of freight rail traffic. This traffic makes it a
great place for manufacturing and commerce. The Wasatch Mountains
are located nearby. The city is 26.6 square miles and the elevation is 4,300
feet above sea level. Ogden is the home of Weber State
University.
A
trapper by the name of Miles Goodyear established the town in 1846 and Mormon
settlers bought the town in 1947 for $1,950. The town has been known as: Fort Buenaventura,
Brownsville and then Ogden. The location of the original Fort Buenaventura
is now a Weber County park. Ogden is the closest city of a decent size
that is located near the "Golden Spike" where the first continental railroad
was joined in 1869.
The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints built the Ogden Temple
to serve the large Latter Day Saint population in the surrounding area.
Construction was completed and it was dedicated in 1972. For many years Ogden was the second largest city in Utah,
but Provo and Salt
Lake suburbs have surpassed the
population of Ogden
in recent years.
