Orem is in the northern part of
Utah in the vicinity of Lindon, Provo and Vineyard. Salt Lake City is about 45 mile north of Orem. In 2007, the estimated
population was 92,176 and that made it the sixth largest city in the state. The
city has the nickname "Family City USA". Orem is 18 square miles and is
at an elevation of 4,774 feet above sea level.
There
are three high schools, three middle schools and sixteen elementary schools in
the city. Stevens-Henager College and Utah Valley State
College are also located in Orem. Brigham Young University is located in Provo which is about 15 miles
away.
A
residential area which was developed in 1943 is called the Christeele Acres
Historic District. There are over sixty single family residences in the area
and several duplexes. All of these residences are one story brick and they are
similar to one another. They were built during WWII and variety was not
important when they were building homes for the defense workers. Each house is
about 700 square feet with four main rooms. Although the houses are simple,
they were well built.
The
subdivision was built on ten and a half acres that was originally a farm. The
trees and fields that used to surround Christeele Acres have been replaced with
additional subdivisions over the years. Generally, residential areas are to the
north, south and east with business to the west. The agricultural surroundings
have been replaced by retail stores, shopping centers and other businesses.
