Spokane Valley Moving Quote

Spokane Valley is east of Spokane and west of Liberty Lake. Spokane Valley had a 2007 population of 88,280 and that made it the seventh largest city in the state. The name Spokane Valley can be used to describe a larger area than just the area within the city limits.

Communities within the city include:

  • Parts of Chester
  • Dishman
  • Greenacres
  • Opportunity
  • Parts of Otis Orchards
  • Trentwood
  • Veradale
  • Yardley

Many local residents are involved in agricultural jobs, brickyards, canneries, lumber mills and railroad maintenance. The city offers a wide range of benefits for residents and tourists, including:

  • Business Opportunities
  • Churches
  • Communities
  • Community Clubs
  • Community Organizations
  • Farmland
  • Outdoor activities
  • Outdoor sports
  • Recreational areas

Over time the area had crop problems and irrigation problems. This prompted residents to sell their farms and many of these plots were turned into residential areas. Truck farms became prevalent and they raised: asparagus, beans, cantaloupes, cucumbers, peas, raspberries, squash, strawberries, tomatoes, and watermelons. Dairy and poultry farms grew up during this time. The Depression hit Spokane Valley hard and many residents only had enough land to raise enough food for their families.

Agricultural pursuits were pushed aside by industrial businesses after Grand Coulee Dam opened in 1941. The dam brought plenty of electricity and water to the area. Some of the industries included aluminum, cement and paper. In the 1950's, more orchards were replaced by reasonably priced homes. The 1990's brought retirees to the valley because of reasonably priced homes and the dry weather. Residential and commercial growth was prevalent at the end of the 20th century.

Spokane Valley was incorporated as a city in March 2003. It became the third largest newly incorporated city in the US. The first was Centennial, Colorado and Miami Gardens, Florida.
